Functional mapping
Voor enkele onderscheiden begrippen inzake het diagram zie kunst van 'mapping'.
De term `functional mapping´ betekent letterlijk en figuurlijk het functioneel in kaart brengen van de geest (mind map) en wel vanuit het binnen artes Sophiae verband ontwikkelde functionele paradigma en het daartoe `gestemde instrument´ van systeem dynamiek.
Systeem dynamisch denken en werken vraagt om het kunnen visualiseren van hypothetische en operationele denk en werk verbanden. Het visueel in kaart brengen van denkbare concepten zowel in analytische als in synthetische denk-bewegingen heeft zich in de loop van de tijd, her en der, ontwikkeld.
Binnen artes Sophiae verband is het fenomeen `mind map´ systeem dynamisch vierledig uitgewerkt en verwerkt in het action research model.
Kortheidshalve, onderscheiden we in het action research model 4 fasen / stappen, analoog aan de empirische- en fenomenologische cyclus.
In het artes Sophiae action research model benoemd als open dating, axial dating, conceptual dating en functional dating. Aan deze vier fasen / stappen verbinden we respectievelijk mind mapping, design mapping, concept mapping en frame mapping. Zie ook Lezing Wageningen
Vooreerst moet vermeld worden dat pas binnen artes Sophiae verband de stappen van open dating naar axial dating en zo voort, systeem dynamisch onderbouwd, inzichtelijk denkbaar en methodisch hanteerbaar zijn gemaakt ten behoeve van het zogenoemde handelingsgerichte onderzoek binnen het functionele paradigma, en verder uitgewerkt in o.a. lerend onderzoeken en onderzoekend leren.
Zonder een systeem dynamische denk en werkwijze is het niet mogelijk om vorm te geven aan de action research cyclus; action research en systeem dynamiek zijn derhalve noodzakelijk complementair binnen het functionele paradigma, het ene is niet zonder het andere.
Willen we derhalve handelingsgericht onderzoek kunnen behartigen dan dienen we systeemdynamisch te kunnen denken en werken en dat vraagt om het systematisch, methodisch en logisch in kaart brengen van voorhanden en nog te onderzoeken en of te vormen concepten. Dat op diverse wijzen `in kaart kunnen brengen´ is nu de essentie van functional mapping.
Functional mapping is een vorm van kennis management. Het managen van `kennis´, vraagt evenwel ook om een `kennen´ en een `kunnen´, tesamen komend in `kunst´. De kunst om kennis te managen, leidend tot een kunnen en kennen. Dit viertal kan vorm gegeven worden in een mind map (diagram), simpel maar adequaat. Daarop voortbordurend kan je daaraan talloze vierledige schemata koppelen, mits je elke mind map systeem dynamisch uitwerkt tot een vergelijkbaar, analoog werkend, model, zodat ze tesamen een patroon vormen, zogezegd een functioneel denk-raam en werk-raam ineen.
De woorden denk-raam en werk-raam verwijzen in dit verband letterlijk ook naar visueel denkbare en werkbare grafisch weer te geven modellen, zij het dat ze systeem dynamisch uitgewerkt en ingewerkt zijn in systeemdynamisch gevalideerde werkvelden, kaarten van de geest, mind maps.
Welke kaarten en of mappen dien je dan te ontwikkelen wil je systeemdynamisch kunnen denken en werken? Dat nu vormt de focus van het artes Sophiae onderzoek, ondergebracht in artes techne, de onderzoekskamer van Artes Sophiae. Onderzoek ontstaat al doende in het verleggen van de grens tussen licht en donker, immers de onderzoeker weet ten diepste niet wat in het donker wacht op verheldering en verduidelijking.
Al doende heeft artes Sophiae in de loop van de jaren de ene na de andere map, kaart, ontwikkeld en de eerste heette diagram, vervolgens ontstond het dynagram. Nadat we beide `grammetjes´ door ontwikkeld hadden, ontstond de combi tussen beiden, het duogram.
Aangezien elk `grammetje´ letterlijk een systeem dynamisch gevalideerd concept bevatte, uitgewerkt in een visueel te bedenken en te bewerken `veld´ ontstond ook de mogelijkheid te leren werken in een actueel onderzoeksveld in werking. Dat onderzoeksveld heeft vele namen gekregen, maar alle benamingen sneuvelden uiteindelijk.
Pas met het o.a. bestuderen van een oud Chinees geschrift: `het geheim van de gouden bloem´, werd duidelijk wat dat veld inhield en hoe dat veld ook daadwerkelijk in werking kon treden. Dit aloude geschrift werd weer heel modern door de vele pogingen het begrip veld opnieuw tot leven te wekken vanuit onderscheiden optieken (electromagnetisch / quantum mechanisch / etc.).
Voor hetgeen al jaren praxis was binnen ´het leren werken in de werking van het veld´ ontstond nu begrip en beeld van de aard van dit veld in werking, vandaar dat we het zijn gaan benoemen als een dictogram.
Hoe te werken in het dictogram is methodisch uitgewerkt in 16 stappen, allen systeem dynamisch gerelateerd en gevalideerd. Het dictogram als een veld in werking is niet te `lezen´, te verstaan en te begrijpen, zonder het benutten van diagrammen en dynagrammen ter referentie en objectivering van hetgeen zich in dat veld laat zien en horen.
Feitelijk kan het dictogram slechts gelezen worden als je hebt leren werken in het duogram, vandaar dat het dictogram systeem dynamisch gepositioneerd wordt op oost en het duogram op west. Het diagram werd op noord gepositioneerd en het dynagram op zuid.
Het positioneren van deze vier grammetjes in een systeem dynamisch gevalideerd verband, compatible met onder andere het diagram van kennen, kunnen, kunst en kennis analoog onder andere aan het diagram van denken, willen, voelen en handelen en zo voort was op zich al een hele zoektocht. Uiteindelijk ging dat pas lukken doordat we de drie paradigma´s systeemdynamisch konden positioneren in relatie tot enerzijds de drie onderzoeks cycli: empirisch, fenomenologisch, action research en anderzijds de drie niveaus: systeem systematiek, systeem methodiek, systeem logiek.
Systeem logiek op zuid oost verhoudt zich tot het dynagram en het dictogram; systeem systematiek op noord oost verhoudt zich tot diagram en dictogram, zodoende kwam systeem methodiek op west als de spiegeling tussen diagram op noord en dynagram op zuid. Op deze wijze kwam in beeld hoe systeem methodiek zich dient te verhouden tot het leren benutten van het duogram, eveneens op west. Zo werd al doende ook duidelijk dat het dictogram feitelijk zich dient te verhouden tot de action research cyclus eveneens op oost, in relatie tot de empirische cyclus op noord west en de fenomenologische cyclus op zuid west. Zie bovenstaand diagram, onderdeel van de reeks functional paradigm.
Dit kunnen beschrijven en kunnen lezen, laat staan verstaan en begrijpen is al een hele tour de force. Zoveel sprekender is een functioneel diagram met al deze posities in beeld, mits men ook de betekenis van de posities leert hanteren. Kortom, bij deze is de lezer een kijkje vergund in de keuken van hoe het zich heeft ontwikkeld en het is nog maar zeer de vraag of dit stand kan houden, immers de grens tussen licht en donker is zeer wel niet altijd de grens tussen waar en onwaar, in tegendeel.
Met deze vier kaarten, grammetjes (diagram, dynagram, duogram, dictogram), dachten we er al wel te zijn, maar ook hier schreed het onderzoek voort en kwamen we via diverse studies in de loop der jaren uit bij het fenomeen hologram, holotropic field en de principes waarmee dat veld valt te stofferen en te coderen.
Uiteindelijk hebben we, na vergeefse pogingen, een visueel samenhangend grafisch veld weten te construeren, waarin de ijkpunten van zowel het dia, dyna, duo en dictogram samenvielen in een elkaar overlappend en spiegelend samenhangend veld. Na veel schroom benoemden we dat als het hologram en hebben we een bescheiden aanvang genomen dat zelf te leren hanteren en te denken. De komende jaren moet nog blijken of we op het goede spoor mogen voortdenken en werken.
Ondertussen trachten we al doende het hologram vorm te geven; voorlopig brengen we daar enerzijds de principes onder die een holotropische benadering karakteriseert en anderzijds ontwikkelen we de benodigde organogrammen om het artes Sophiae verband systeemdynamisch in te richten als een holotropisch werkende organisatie inzake systeemdynamiek, zie aldaar.

Functional mapping

The term `functional mapping’ literally and figuratively means the functional mapping of the mind (mind map) through the functional paradigm developed within artes Sophiae and the for that reason ’tuned instrument' of system dynamics.
System dynamic thinking and working asks for the ability to visualize hypothetical and operational thinking and working relationships. The visual mapping of thinkable concepts in both analytical and synthetical thinking movements has developed over time, here and there.
Within the artes Sophiae context, the phenomenon 'mind map' has been system dynamically developed in fourfold and incorporated in the action research model.
For the sake of brevity, in the action research model we distinguish 4 phases / steps analogous to the empirical and phenomenological cycle.
In the artes Sophiae action research model, they are appointed as open dating, axial dating, conceptual dating and functional dating. To these four phases / steps we connect respectively mind mapping, design mapping, concept mapping and frame mapping. See also art of mapping.
First of all, it must be mentioned that only within Artes Sophiae connection the steps from open dating to axial dating and so on, system dynamically substantiated, insight-wise conceivable and methodically made manageable for the action-oriented research within the functional paradigm, and further elaborated in, among other things, learning by researching and researching by learning.
Without a system-dynamic way of thinking and working method, it is not possible to give shape to the action research cycle; action research and system dynamics are therefore necessary complementary within the functional paradigm, one is not without the other.
If we want to be able to focus on action-oriented research, then we need to be able to think and work system dynamically and that asks for a systematic, methodical and logical mapping of existing and yet to be researched and / or to shape concepts. That 'mapping out' in various ways is now the essence of functional mapping.
Functional mapping is a form of knowledge management. However, managing 'knowledge' also asks for a 'knowing' and a 'being able', coming together in 'art’. The art of managing knowledge, leading to a being able and knowing. This foursome can be given form in a mind map (diagram), simple but adequate. Building on that you can link numerous four-part schemes to it, provided you work out every mind map system dynamically to a comparable, analogue working model, so that they form a pattern together, so to speak, a functional ‘frame to think’ and ‘frame to work’ in one.
The words ‘frame to think’ and ‘frame to work’ literally refer in this context to visually thinkable and workable graphical models, albeit that they are system dynamically developed and incorporated into system dynamically validated working fields, cards of the mind, mind maps.
Which cards and / or maps do you need to develop if you want to be able to think and work system dynamically? Exactly that forms the focus of artes techne, the research room of Artes Sophiae. Research arises in the process of shifting the boundary between light and dark. After all, the researcher does deeply not know at all what is waiting in the dark for clarification and explanation.
In the course of the years, artes Sophiae has developed (by doing it) one after the other map, card, and the first one was called diagram, and then the dynagram arose. After we had developed both 'grammes', the combination between them arose, the duogram.
Because every gram literally contained a system dynamically validated concept, elaborated in a visually thinkable and editable 'field', the possibility arose to learn how to work in a topical research field in operation. That research field has received many names, but all names eventually perished.
Only when studying, among other things, an old Chinese scripture 'the secret of the golden flower', it became clear what that field entailed and how that field could actually take effect. This ancient writing became very modern again because of the many attempts to revive the notion of 'field' from different optics (electromagnetic / quantum mechanical / etc).
For what has been praxis for years in 'learning how to work in the working of the field' arose now understanding and imaging of the nature of this field in working, that's why we started naming it as a dictogram.
How to work in the dictogram has been worked out methodically in 16 steps, all system dynamically related and validated. The dictogram as a field in working can not be 'read', understood and comprehended, without the use of diagrams and dynagrams for reference and objectivation of what happens in that ‘field’.
In fact, the dictogram can only be read if you have learned to work in the duogram. That is why the dictogram is system dynamically positioned on the east and the duogram on the west. The diagram was positioned on the north and the dynagram on the south.
The positioning of these four grams in a system dynamically validated relationship, compatible with, among other things, the diagram of 'to know', 'to be able', art and knowledge analogous to, among other things, the diagram of thinking, willing, feeling and acting and so on was in itself a whole quest. Ultimately, this was only possible because we were able to position the three paradigms system dynamically in relation to the three research cycles: empirical, phenomenological, action research and on the other hand the three levels: system systematics, system methodics and system logics.
System logics on the south-east stands in proportion to the dynagram and the dictogram; System systematics on the north-east stands in proportion to the diagram and the dictogram, so system methodics came on west as the reflection between diagram on north and dynagram on south. In this way it became clear how system methodics should be in proportion to learning how to use the duogram, also on the west. Thus it became also clear that the dictogram should actually be in proportion to the action research cycle also on the east, in relation to the empirical cycle on the north west and the phenomenological cycle on the south west. To be able to describe and read this, let alone understand and comprehend, is a whole tour de force. So much more pronounced is a functional diagram with all its positions in view, provided that one also learns to handle the meaning of the positions. In short, with this the reader is granted a glimpse into the kitchen of how it has developed and it is still very questionable whether this can stand, because the border between light and dark is not always the boundary between true and false, on the contrary.
With these four cards, grams (diagram, dynagram, duogram, dictogram), we thought we were already there, but here too the research continued and through various studies over the years we came across the phenomenon hologram, holotropic field and the principles with which that field can be upholstered and coded.
Finally, after vain attempts, we managed to construct a visually coherent graphical field in which the reference points of the diagram, dynagram, duogram and dictogram coincide in an overlapping and mirrored coherent field. After much hesitation, we called it the hologram and we have taken a modest start to learn how to handle and how to think it. In the coming years it remains to be seen whether we can think and work the right track.
Meanwhile, we try to shape the hologram in the process; for the time being, we will introduce the principles that characterize a holotropic approach on the one hand, and on the other hand, we will develop the required organizational charts to set up system dynamicaly the artes Sophiae connection as a holotropic working organization on the subject of system dynamics, see there.
